Inspiration from the Zoo

Hello. It's week 4 of the Inspiration Workshop! This week's prompt was Spend the Day Playing.

This prompt came at just the right time, because the hubs and I had taken a day off from work last Friday for fun and play at the Minnesota Zoo in celebration of our four year wedding anniversary! It was such a blast, and all of the animal encounters were good ones. Lots of up closes! I guess you could probably call us zoo animal whisperers. If you want.

Gussy challenged us to make a photo collage and I accepted the challenge.

I will make a list of explanations in the order of the pictures, because I love making lists.

  • Mr. Wolf came close to the glass.
  • Me wearing an elephant earring in the spirit of going to the zoo.
  • My favorite part: prairie dogs. Sometimes they throw their head and hands back and shriek. I didn't know that they did that. So comical!
  • Flamingos. One drinks from the gross orange murk water.
  • Me with a tiger. Looking happy.
  • Me pretending to be a reindeer. Brian getting really excited that he got a shot of the reindeer right inside my arm/head triangle.
  • Me pretending to be a bear. That bear ended up walking around really close to the glass, scratching his back and butt on anything he could find. Like Baloo the Bear from Jungle Book. I guess Disney is pretty accurate when it comes to the portrayal of bear habits.
  • Us looking happy on our anniversary.
  • The hubs found a tunnel.
  • "Liz, come into the tunnel!" "No, I'm wearing a dress."
  • Brian making a lemur face alongside a lemur. Lemur's are his favorite, he loves their bushy tails. He wishes he had one of his own. A tail, that is. Although he probably wouldn't say no to a pet lemur.
  • Me using my owl purse in the spirit of going to the zoo. People kept staring at me while Brian took this pic. Guess it's weird to take pictures of your owl purse in public places.
  • A wolverine that liked to play with paper in a tree.
  • The hubs with an orange swirl ice cream cone.

I think a couple of the pictures are blurry. Sorry about that. But I'm not redoing the collage.

Oh and let me give you another list. This one is about why this anniversary was so great:

  • We got free passes for the zoo from the library.
  • We had a gift card for Olive Garden for dinner.
  • We got a free rental from Blockbuster that night.
  • Our anniversary was free. Except for parking at the zoo.
  • Fabuloooouuuuss!!!!!

When we got home from the zoo and dinner we watched our free movie, Despicable Me (yes, totally loved it like everyone said I would) in our basement because our upstairs smelled gross from this weird maple flavored sausage we had cooked that morning. Confession time. I just hate it when our house smells like meat. Hate it so much. Don't get me wrong, I like to eat the meat. I just don't like to smell it. In my house. Is that weird? Wait, don't tell me. Just humor me.

Then we both worked on drawing stuff. The hubs on a pic for his dad for Father's day, and myself on an armadillo. Which actually turned out to be a platypus. Or the other way around. It was traumatic.

Let's wrap this up. Our day spent playing was the best ever. :)

Flamingo Doodle

Daily Animal Doodle
Day 22 - Flamingo

If you are wondering why I am blogging at 12:15am, I am wondering the same thing myself.

The hubs suggested that I draw the flamingos from Alice in Wonderland that are used as croquet mallets. AFTER I had already drawn this one. I scrunched my face up and said "noooooooooo" in whiny voice.

Weekend Recap - Basement & Puke

I've realized that I need to start getting into the habit of making more posts besides the Daily Animal Doodle. Because, let's face it. The doodles are over at the end of this month, and then what will I be left with? One or two posts a week? So I figured I better start preparing ahead of time for the big change and think of other things to post like a normal person.

SO. I'm going to start doing weekend recaps. Hope you like them.

On Friday the hubs and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary (well our actual anniversary was Thursday. But you know.) I'm going to be writing a post about that on Thursday, so I will spare you the pain of describing everything TWICE. So. Skip to Saturday.

On Saturday my sister came over in the morning so that we could rehearse a song we are doing for a friend's wedding on Friday. Besides rehearsing we also talked talked talked, played Rock Band 3, and watched Youtube clips of Jimmy Fallon's late night hashtags. Jimmy Fallon is not always my favorite, but man that's some funny stuff right there. Hannah left for work and my inlaws, Roy and Joan, came over from WI to stay with us a few nights. The main purpose of their stay was so that Roy could help the hubs do electrical work in our basement.

Side note. We have an unfinished basement. That we are finishing. If all goes according to plan we should eventually (key word here is eventually) end up with a laundry room that doesn't include a washer and dryer on opposite sides of the house from each other. It will also include a nice big storage area, a second bathroom, a family room (already partially finished), and......an art studio! Eeeeee! Oh, and there's also a bouldering cave. We decided to do that last but somehow it got done first.

That night consisted of Father's Day dinner at La Casita and the movie Salt. Lot's of little surprises in that movie, eh?

On Sunday morning at church we heard a great sermon. Here are two quotes that stuck out to me, "Partial obedience is disobedience" and "Very ineffective people are really good at making excuses." For lunch I tried my hand at being a good cook, but I underestimated how many green beans I needed and each person ended up with about six shriveled tiny beans a piece. Um, embarrassing.

While the boys went back to work, Joan and I went to watch my dear cousin's violin recital. She played beautifully. Afterwards, we (we means myself, Joan, my mom, brother, sister, 2 cousins, aunt and uncle, and grandparents) went to my grandparent's house for dinner, which was the first time Joan had spent an extended period of time with my family. Other than the part where the conversation somehow got stuck on puke for like a half hour, I would say it went pretty well. Brian for some reason wasn't surprised when we got home and told him that we had talked extensively about puke.

Well that pretty much wraps up the weekend. When I had time in there I worked on a piece I'm doing for a friend, a new piece for the shop, watched lots of these with the hubs, tried and failed to be a social networking guru, drew and blogged about platypi, armadillos, mokeys, cheetahs, and slept.

And on Sunday night I asked if someone would please extend the weekend but nobody did.

Meanies.

Oh man, I am long winded. If you have stuck with me this long then you are probably my mom, who is my biggest fan. Thanks Mom! Love you!

Beaver Doodle

Daily Animal Doodle
Day 20 - Beaver

Beaver Fever. With a big head and not evenly sized feet.

I didn't look up any beavers on google or anything so I have no idea if this guy is anatomically correct, or if beavers are in the habit of standing on their hind legs with their little hands up like a rabbit.

Cheetah Doodle

Daily Animal Doodle
Day 19 - Cheetah

Ok, I'm caught back up. Until tomorrow.

Oh. And can someone work on making the weekends longer? Ok thanks. Let me know when you have that figured out. Preferably before Monday morning, which is in like 7 hours. Work quick.

Monkey Doodle

Daily Animal Doodle
Day 18 - Monkey

Wa, I'm a day behind! I know. Let's play a little catch up because life can be busy.

The hubs originally request that I draw the concerned monkey from this video (yes you should go watch it. I think Brian's favorite concerned monkey comes on at about 30 seconds.). I tried, but it ended up looking like a creeper. Kind of like when I tried to draw the orangutan. All monkeys that I draw look like creepers.

So I stuck to something nice and simple that came out of my head.

Oh and I have some bad news. I learned yesterday that the llama I drew is actually an alpaca. I guess I need to study up on my animals.
